In a social media tweet, President Trump said ‘Perhaps we could use a little bit of that good ol’ global warming..’ His comment in response to the East Coast’s bitter cold on New Years Eve. Many are speculating though, what are we to make of the crazy weather this past year?
Jim’s guest on Crosstalk today is Dr. E. Calvin Beisner who says that while we are seeing new temperature records, these records are related to very small locations and are bound to happen statistically ‘any given day’ if enough different locations get sampled. Despite what global warming advocates say, Beisner says, basically, ‘global warming predicts everything….we have actually left the realm of (good) science, and entered the realm of make believe.’ Beisner says ‘we’re really observing the death nail of the whole global warming alarmist movement.’
When asked if science does back up climate change? Beisner responds that first we need to ‘recover sound principles of science….science is not driven by consensus.’ Beisner says the tests have been done and  ‘over the 40 years we’ve been gathering satellite data, carbon dioxide and global average temperature are very very weakly linked…..we have explained all of the temperature variability from the mid 20th century to today. There is no warming left over to blame on CO2. That’s science.’

Many would disagree. The Washington Post reports that our planet just had it’s hottest four years in recorded history. NASA scientists quote 2017 as the 2nd warmest year they have ever recorded. Beisner refutes saying that is only ‘according to one data set – and not the most reliable one.’ He argues that ‘satellite data is most reliable for global average temperature’ and quotes numbers from the University of Alabama. In fact, he says ‘If anything, because solar activity has declined, we are most likely seeing any (so called) warming trend, end. Many believe we may actually experience global cooling in years to come – even a modern ice age looming. This could spell danger as on average, ten times as many people die during extreme cold than extreme heat.

What about all the natural disasters? Arctic sea ice? Obama’s Clean Power plan? Will there be a ‘chocolate apocalypse?’ Beisner is careful to not make any predictions but quotes Yogi Berra, ‘Predictions are really tough. Especially about the future.’ We take your calls.
