The Better Use of Light Bulbs Act (BULB) was recently up for vote by the House of Representatives and was an attempt to avoid a ban on traditional, incandescent light bulbs. The vote was 233 in favor to 193 opposed, but a two-thirds majority was necessary so the coming phase-out on incandescent bulbs remains in effect.

Is this just a U.S. phenomenon? What’s behind the push toward compact fluorescent lighting? Is there a behavioral component to lighting? Is this and other government mandates a sign that some element of “choice” is being removed from our lives and the lives of future generations?

Vic also opened the phone lines and there were plenty of listeners ready to present their opinions on this edition of Crosstalk.
