Phyllis Schafly is the founder and president of Eagle Forum. She is the author or editor of some 20 books along with being an attorney admitted to the practice of law in Illinois, Missouri, DC, and the U.S. Supreme Court. She’s involved in radio broadcasting with daily commentaries and the monthly newsletter, the Phyllis Schlafly Report.

The U.N.’s Law of the Sea Treaty has been continually rejected by U.S. legislators going all the way back to the 1980’s and the Reagan administration. The idea behind the treaty is to give control of a vast majority of the earth’s surface to the United Nations. Phyllis described how they want this due to the vast riches that exist at the bottom of the sea; a factor which she believes is part of a great wealth transfer program.

It isn’t just radical environmental lawyers that are backing this treaty. Believe it or not, other groups supporting it include the U.S. Navy as well as multinational oil companies led by Shell. It’s possible that via the International Tribunal in Hamburg, these environmental lawyers may be looking at the opportunity to sue the United States over our alleged environmental sins.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton believes that opposition to this treaty is based upon “mythology”. Phyllis, however, believes that this treaty would mean a loss of sovereignty for the U.S. and that it would do nothing to rein in China’s enormous maritime territorial claims.
