A Gubernatorial election is taking place today in Virginia, pitting a
strong Democrat ally of Barack Obama who has never held office
against a Republican who is pro-life and as Virginia Attorney General
filed the first lawsuit against the Affordable Health Care
legislation, known as Obamacare. There are reports of dirty tricks
by supporters of the Democratic candidate, including 'robo-calls' to
conservatives telling them that the republican is pro-abortion and in
favor of Obamacare.

Jim presented a number of current news items that indicate our nation is not only 'off course', but may in fact be 'on its way down'.

--Michelle Obama today is hosting at the White House a celebration of
Diwali, a Hindu 'festival of lights' which honors Lakshmi, believed
to be the goddess of wealth and prosperity. The emphasis on 'light'
also promotes the 'inner light', with the belief that we are the
source of light, not God. Meanwhile, on Capitol Hill, this year
marks the first ever bipartisan celebration of the same Hindu

--The U.S. Senate began holding hearings today on the U.N. Convention
on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), which was defeated
on the Senate floor last year. Michael Ferris of the Home School
Legal Defense Association explains that this treaty would surrender
parents and caregivers’ decision-making ability on behalf of their
disabled children to unelected and unaccountable UN bureaucrats. In
the process it would supersede state laws, and replace the strong
protections for those with disabilities already in U.S. law. It will
most certainly pass out of committee, and needs a 2/3 majority to
pass the full Senate.

--A New Jersey couple has launched a lawsuit against Gov. Chris Christie, saying his newly signed law that bans psychologists from counseling children away from homosexuality is unconstitutional. The governor stated that he signed the bill because in his view, the health risks of such counseling trump concerns over setting limits on parental rights.

--The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), Bill S815, is once
again in the process of coming to a vote in the U.S. Senate. The bill
now has 55 co-sponsors, which is a majority of the 100 member Senate.
The act would make it illegal for employers with 15 or more
employees to make any decisions or take any actions regarding an
applicant or employee based that person's gender identity--which
could change from day to day as it is not based on their biological
gender. It is likely to pass the Senate with that number of
co-sponsors, and it would then go to the House of Representatives.

--Other evidences that our nation may be 'on its way down', include the first ever same-sex 'marriage' this past weekend at the Army Academy at West Point, and the pressure being exerted by Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel on states that do not permit their state-run National Guard units to issue I.D. cards to same-sex partners of members.
