Many women today are avoiding marriage and according to Phyllis Schlafly, those that want to go ahead with marriage, want to marry someone with a job. The problem is, those men are becoming harder to find because free trade has taken away many middle class jobs.

This is just one of many factors affecting the American family as discussed on this edition of Crosstalk. Phyllis has the expertise to comment on these factors because of her background as founder and president of Eagle Forum. She’s been a national leader of the conservative movement since the publication of her bestselling 1964 book, “A Choice Not An Echo.” She’s the author of some 20 books and publishes a monthly newsletter, “The Phyllis Schlafly Report” and has a syndicated column which appears in 100 newspapers. She has been called the “iron lady” of the conservative movement. She conducts daily radio commentaries and despite turning 90 years old this past August has just released a new book, “Who Killed the American Family?”

As the program moved along, Phyllis provided commentary on numerous other factors she believes are having the greatest impact on the family. These include: No-fault/unilateral divorce, U.N. treaties from bureaucrats that don’t understand our way of life, expensive college loans and the family courts. Other factors from her book include the effects of welfare reform, globalism vs. homemakers, psychological disorders, advice from newspapers, over-medicating children, the influence of television and more.
